Pinot Wins Tour Of The Alps Race

Groupama FDJ’s Thibaut Pinot has won the Tour Of The Alps race.

 

Formerly, the Giro Del Trentin, this fifth stage was over a 164.2km course from Rattenberg to Innsbruck and had Thibaut Pinot in the leader’s Fuschia jersey.

 

On another lovely sunny day, 119 riders started and it was Eenkhoorn who took the six points at the opening sprint of the day

 

Eight riders in Bidard, Bagioli, Rodriguez, Anton Hernandez, Gavazzi, Andretta, Senni and Niv then formed a break which was 5.25 ahead as they started on the Auberland climb.

 

The gap went out to 8.28 as Rodriquez was first over the climb and they headed towards roads that will be used in the World Championships.

 

Rodriquez took the Olympia climb for the first of three times as Lopez and Visconti joined the break.

 

A group of three riders in Pinot, Lopez and Pozzovivo were chasing on  with 6.6kms to go and the Ukranian Mark Padun of Bahrain-Merida who took the stage win in 4.16.10 with George Bennett second and Jan Hirt third

 

Thibaut Pinot came in safely and took the overall victory. Chris Froome finished fourth overall.
