Elia Viviani With Tirreno-Adriatico Stage Three Victory

Elia Viviani of Deceuninck Quick Step has won the third stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico. The race of the two seas had Adam Yates in the leader’s jersey for a 226km stage from Pomerance to Foligno. Mirco Maestri, Allesandro Tonelli, Natneal Berhane, Kuriyanov, Alex Cataford and Schönberger were straight into a break which was 4.20 ahead after twelve kilometres. Kuriyanov won the first sprint as the gap went out to 4.30 but was down to 3.30 after Caruso abandoned. Berhane was first over the Passeo del Rospatoio climb as the gap went out to 5.10. With 150kms left, the lead was at 4.12 and then hovered around the 3.53 mark and it was at 3.38 heading towards the next climb at La Face which was won by Berhane who took the five points to put in the KOM jersey. Stefan Kuriyanov took the intermediate sprint with 83kms left at Chiusi before dropping out of the break. Going into the final twenty kilometres and the gap was down to 1.10 and 22 seconds with ten kilometres left. Cataford was the last man caught with 4.2kms left and the speed was high as they took on ten corners before the finish. It came down to a sprint and Elia Viviani took the win in 5.26.46 ahead of Peter Sagan and Fernando Gaviria. Adam Yates continues to lead the race.       .read full article
