Jonas Van Genechten Wins Omloop van het Houtland

Jonas Van Genechten of Vital Concept has won the Omloop van het Houtland race.   A race of 191.4kms comprising of 120kms plus seven 10.2km circuits around Lichtervelde.   The first break formed after five kilometres and was quickly caught and then Boucher, Abraham, Holstad, Hagen and Saugstad formed a new break which was forty seconds ahead of a group and 1.20 ahead of the second peloton with 145kms to go.   Five kilometres later, the break were caught by the pack which was still split into three groups.   British rider Mark McNally, van Goethem and Lammerink broke and were joined by Vermeulen, Boucher and Tzortzakis.   They were soon 1.29 ahead but as the wind got up, that dropped to 33 seconds and that break was caught leaving 34 riders up front with a hundred kilometres left to race.   Heading for the local laps and the front group had gone out 57 riders so Havik attacked and got clear and was still away with fifty kilometres left.   Havik was caught and Jens Keukeleire, Jonas Rickaert, Tanguy Turgis and Pieter Vanspeybrouck led by thirty seconds ahead with twenty kilometres to go.   Keukeleire and Vanspeybrouck attacked together but Vanspeybrouck was caught by the peloton who were still chasing Keukeleire with two kilometres to go.   Just before the finish line, Keukeleire was caught and Jonas Van Genechten took the win ahead of Jasper De Buyst, Tim Dupont and Keukeleire.                   .read full article
