Sam Bennett of Bora Hansgrohe has won the sixth stage of the 77th Paris-Nice race. This annual race to the sun in March had Team Sky’s Michael Kwiatkowski in the leader’s jersey for a 176.5km stage from Peynier to Brignoles. On a stage where five climbs came towards the end of the stage, Alex Kirsch (Trek-Segafredo), Laurent Pichon (Arkea Samsic) Mauro Finetto (Delko-Marseille-Provence) and Lilian Calmejane (Direct Energie) got away from an initial break of six riders out of the 149 riders who started the stage. After thirty kilometres, the lead had gone out to 2.50 with Calmejane having returned to the peloton and it was at 2.15 after 79kms. Francisco Ventoso abandoned before the break was caught after 128kms and Garcia took the four points on the Cote de Mazaugues climb ahead of Bauer and Tao Geoghagen-Hart of Team Sky. With 35kms to go, the pack had split with the race leader in the front group. Bauer was first over the Cote de Sainte-Philomène ahead of Luke Rowe and Kwiatkowski. Bakelandts and Valls crashed as the sprint trains started to form. Kwiatkowski was first over the Camps-la-Source climb but there was a crash with three kilometres left involving Tao Geoghagen-Hart. It came down to a sprint and up came Sam Bennett of Bora Hansgrohe to take the win in 4.12.35 ahead of Arnaud Demare (Groupama-FDJ) and Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott). Michal Kwiatkowski of Team Sky continues to lead the race.       .read full article
