Roglic Wins Tirreno-Adriatico
Lotto Jumbo
Visma’s Primoz Roglic has
won the Tirreno-Adriatico.
The race of
the two seas had Adam Yates in the leader’s jersey for a final 10.05km time
trial in San Benedetto del Tronto.
Victor Campenaerts of Lotto Soudal set a
time of 11.23 which was quicker than the likes of Jos Van Emden, Rohan Dennis
and birthday boy and former British time trial champion Steve Cummings of Dimension
Data.
The rain
had stopped and the wind had dropped but Campenaerts’ time was good enough to
win the stage.
The final
riders went down the ramp with Adam Yates going last and having to finish
within twenty-five seconds of Primoz Roglic’s time in order to win the race
overall.
Tom Dumoulin
finished in 11.31 with Primoz Roglic finishing in 11.36, meaning that Yates had
to finish in a time of 12.01 or better.
Into the
final kilometre and Yates was 22.5 seconds down. Yates finished in 12.02 and
had to be content with second place overall, a second behind Lotto Jumbo Visma’s
Primoz Roglic.
