Jonas Van Genechten Wins Omloop van het Houtland
Jonas Van Genechten of Vital Concept has won the Omloop van het
Houtland race.
A race of 191.4kms comprising
of 120kms plus seven 10.2km circuits around Lichtervelde.
The first break formed
after five kilometres and was quickly caught and then Boucher, Abraham, Holstad, Hagen and
Saugstad formed a new break which was forty seconds ahead of a group and 1.20
ahead of the second peloton with 145kms to go.
Five kilometres later, the break were
caught by the pack which was still split into three groups.
British rider Mark McNally, van Goethem and
Lammerink broke and were joined by Vermeulen, Boucher and Tzortzakis.
They were soon 1.29 ahead but as the wind
got up, that dropped to 33 seconds and that break was caught leaving 34 riders
up front with a hundred kilometres left to race.
Heading for the local laps and the front
group had gone out 57 riders so Havik attacked and got clear and was still away
with fifty kilometres left.
Havik was caught and Jens Keukeleire, Jonas
Rickaert, Tanguy Turgis and Pieter Vanspeybrouck led by thirty seconds
ahead with twenty kilometres to go.
Keukeleire and Vanspeybrouck attacked
together but Vanspeybrouck was caught by the peloton who were still chasing
Keukeleire with two kilometres to go.
Just before the finish line, Keukeleire was
caught and Jonas Van
Genechten took the win ahead of Jasper De Buyst, Tim Dupont and Keukeleire.
