Chernetski Wins Arctic Race Of Norway
Astana’s Sergei Chernetski has won the Arctic Race Of
Norway
Sergei Chernetski was in the leader’s jersey for a fourth
and final 145.5km stage from Kvalsund to Alta
British champion Conor Swift got in to a break with Niv, Machado,
Delfosse. Mortier K.Skjerping, .Debesay ,
Lemoine, Van Hecke, Kreder, Mihaylov and Bryon and they were quickly 45 seconds
ahead.
With eighty kilometres to go, that lead was out to 3.20
on a day of temperatures of around ten degrees and at 2.20 with 44kms left.
Preben Van Hecke took the sprint before Tiago Machado attacked
on his own with 13 kilometres to go.
The break which had grown to eleven riders brought him
back and they had led by eleven seconds with 4.1kms to go.
Everyone was back together with 2.3kms. Conor Swift of
Dimension Data attacked again with Skjerping but both were caught and Nicholas
Roche tried to attack, taking Mathieu Van Der Poel with him and it was Van Der
Poel of Corendon Circus who won in 3.21.06, taking his sixth win of the season
ahead of Enger and Pacher. Nicholas Roche finished tenth.
Astana’s Sergei Chernetski finished in eighth place and
won the race overall.
